Devilla Forest TOB V NT006875 1 394 55m
This name is almost certainly a modern import. This plantation shares its name with the very large Devilla Forest 3 km to the west in CUS, which in its northern reaches is close to Devilla CUS, and it is probably from here that the name has been transferred. OS Pathf. Devilla Forest is called Deer Park on OS 6 inch 1st edn. (1856), with precisely the same outline. OS Name Book says that ‘deer were formerly kept, but since the death of the late Sir Robert Preston the deer have been disposed of’ (127, 27). The area is not named (though it is marked) on OS 1 inch (1899 and 1988).
