Loorie Plantation 1855 OS 6 inch 1st edn.

en Loorie + SSE plantation

No obvious etymology suggests itself for Loorie. There is a certain superficial similarity with the first element of Lurgyhury c.1335 (Dunf. Reg. no. 333), but this (now lost) place lay approximately 5 km east of Loorie Plantation, at the east end of the parish (see SLN Introduction).

Most of the plantation indicated by the name, and shown on the 1855 map, has now been felled. OS Name Book 3, 2 states that there was a Loorie Well in the plantation.
