? en Cow Strand + Sc or SSE burn

The settlement takes its name from OS Pathf. Cowstrand Burn, the upper reaches of the Blair Burn, forming the parish boundary between SLN and CNK. The existing burn-name contains Sc cow ‘cow’, and probably Sc strand ‘a (small) burn, sometimes an artificial conduit or gutter’, with an explanatory Sc or SSE burn added at a later date.
