Potmeal

Potmeal KDT AAX S NT258928 2 NEF

Potmetal 1775 Ainslie/Fife
Potmetal Plantation 1856 OS 6 inch 1st edn.
Potmetal Plantation 1956 OS 2.5 inch

The OED definition of pot-metal is primarily metal out of which pots were made, either an alloy of lead and copper, or (later) a kind of cast iron. It is unclear why this name should be applied to this place. The change from Potmetal to Potmeal is late, and possibly based on a typographical error on the part of the OS.

OS 2.5 inch (1956) shows Potmetal Plantation at NT261928; OS Explorer shows Potmeal Plantation in roughly the same position, but covering a larger area. The name does not appear on OS Pathf.
