‘Bell-shaped crag or rock’ is the most likely meaning of bell here. It formed part of the lands of Ryelaw, and as such lay in PTM KNR detached until 1891. It appears on OS Pathf. as Bellcraig Farm.

It is described in OS Name Book, under Bellcraigs, simply as: ‘A row of cottages, with garden attached’ (91, 50).
