SSE highland
Perhaps a semi-humorous allusion to the Highlands of Scotland, it is described in the OS Name Book as ‘a tract of good arable land, on which are a few features which bear names’ (133, 29). Two of these features are Cant’s Hill NT263878 and Bennet’s Hill NT266878, both of which appear as such on OS 6 inch 1st edn. Bennet’s Hill is described as ‘an eminence on the tract of land called the Highlands’ (133, 47). Both the specifics are personal names.
