en (Inch)Datie + Sc miln

Inchdatie, later simply Datie, derives from G innis ‘haugh, watermeadow, inch’ and probably G dabhach ‘davoch’, with a loc. suffix (most likely –in). This etymology must remain tentative given the lack of early forms; but compare the development of G dabhach in Findatie, Portmoak KNR.[167]

OS Pathf. shows Datie Mill Plantation and Datiefauld Plantation. The NGR is taken from NMRS.

/ˈdɔ:tɪ mɪl/, though more recently /ˈdetɪ mɪl/ is to be heard in the area.[168]
