‘White hill’; probably contrastively modelled on the name of the adjacent lands of Blacklaw to the west, which seems to be the older name. Both Blacklaw and Whitelaw have been Englished as Blackhill and Whitehill on SGF (1828).
Mid Law, marked on Roy’s map 1753 to the south-west of Black Law, is probably an error for White Law.
