Sc hill + Sc toun

‘Hill farm or toun’. Part of the barony of Rosyth, it was a subdivision of the original estate of Rosyth, and is sometimes referred to as Hilton of Rosyth. In 1488 Sir David Stewart of Rosyth grants an annual rent of £10 from his lands of Hilton of the barony of Rosyth, in the same barony, to a chaplain for the celebration of the divine office at the altar of St Michael the Archangel in the parish kirk of the burgh of Inverkeithing (1488 RMS ii no. 2053).
