‘A row of cottages situated near the Dunfermline District Trust No. 11. The name is derived from a temporary Bridge having been thrown across the stream here on the occasion of a young lady, daughter of the proprietor, passing this way to get married. The place has ever since bore [sic] this name’ (OS Name Book 134, 11).
