‘Bruce’s harbour’. Bruce derives from the family name of the local lairds, the earls of Elgin, for more details of whom see Broomhall DFL above. The above NGR is for the settlement on OS Pathf., but Roy, Ainslie/Fife and SGF all show the settlement on the shore at NT085830, as you would expect of a harbour or haven, and indeed the small bay with its breakwater is marked on OS Pathf. as Bruce Haven. The location further inland of OS Pathf. Brucehaven is that of OS 6 inch (1856) Claysikes, q.v.
