? Sc clint or ? clink + Sc hill

Sc clint is ‘a large, hard stone’ (Jamieson), or ‘a cliff or crag’ (DOST); but some early forms suggest clink as the first element, for which DSL offers no suitable explanation.

OS Pathf. also has Clinthill Plantation, Clinthill Bents and Clinthill Top. This last is probably the hill referred to in the name Clinthill.
