Oneford Burn CUS W NS988889 1 393 25m
Oneford Burn 1866 OS 6 inch 1st edn.
SSE one + SSE ford + SSE burn
‘Burn with one ford’. It is possible that this is an Englishing of an earlier Sc *Aneford Burn. It is a short burn which rises beside OS Explorer Backward Wood, runs eastwards to the south of Balgownie Mains, and joins the Bluther Burn at the above NGR. It is crossed by only one road (today carried by a small bridge), leading north to West Grange and Brankstone. This road is already marked on Stobie’s map of 1783, but with no indication of a ford at the point where it crosses the Oneford Burn, which is clearly shown but not named.
