‘Hill covered in whin (gorse)’. The 1856 name implies a burn in the vicinity called *Tully Burn. OS Pathf. shows it as ‘Tullyburn or Whinny Knowe’. It does not seem to appear in the OS Name Books. Note also Whinnymuir 1788 Sasines no. 1866, which appears associated with the lands of Pitlochie SLO.
