en *Cadgeracre + SSE wood

There must have been a field or plot of land here called *Cadgeracre, containing Sc cadger ‘peddler or itinerant dealer’ (CSD), in place-names usually associated with old roads. In this case it lay on an old road called Bellfauld Road (OS 6 inch 1st edn), part of which is now the Leden Urquhart Road. The road is described in OS Name Book as leading to Abernethy, but is now ‘choked with furze and other rubbish’ (26, 6).

Cadgeracre Wood stands beside a disused quarry.
