Boghall 1828 SGF [house]

Sc or SSE bog + Sc or SSE hall
‘Hall or high-status house by a bog’; the use of hall here is ironic or facetious, as is often the case with this word in minor place-names. Boghall stood on a hill overlooking a boggy area on the west bank of the Bow Burn, 35 m lower down.
The house shown on early maps at the NGR given above has completely disappeared by the time of the OS Pathf. and OS Explorer (2001), though the name persists on these maps for an area of north-facing hillside.
