? + SSE hill

Perhaps the first element is a Sc version of the surname Crowley? It refers to a large sand hill on the lands of Strathburn just north of the farm. It is not named but shown wooded on estate plan RHP1292 (1829), on which another sand hill just east of the farm is named Blood Hill, possibly a reference to its sandy colour when ploughed (JMH).

It is also discussed under Strathburn LEU, below.
