Cowhallie LEU S NO430199 1 10m
Cowhalie 1855 OS 6 inch 1st edn
Cowhalie 1894 OS 1 inch 2nd edn
This unusual name appears too late in the record to allow of any certain etymology. It is described by OS Name Book as: ‘A small cottage a short distance North of Moonzie Mill having about 7 acres of land attached, occupied by Robert Henderson and property of Mr Stuart’ (46, 12).
This was another name for the small-holding attached to Moonzie Works (which referred to a furniture-making workshop, now demolished), and it survives as Cowhallie, a field-name on the farm of Balmullo.[275]
