Sc mire + en Cairnie
‘Myre or bog Cairnie’ i.e. that part of the lands of Cairnie on or by a mire, in this case the flood-plain of the Moonzie Burn. It is identified in 1240 × 1244 as marching on the north with Lochmalony KLM, and on the east with *Reginald’s Lands LOG (see LOG Intro., Medieval Lands).
It has given its name to the steep and conspicuous hill (173 m), OS Pathf. Myrecairnie Hill (so called also in 1855 OS 6 inch 1st edn). Myrecairnie farm-steading sits on the bottom of its southern flank, while Hillcairnie KLM (q.v.) lies immediately to the north-west of the hill.
