Dandie, as well as Dand and Dandy, are hypocorisms (pet-forms) of Andrew (see Black 1946, under Dand). OS Name Book (43, 20) describes the wood, adding a note as to the origin of the name: ‘A Wood of larch and Fir trees on the Estate of Kilmany, the Property of John Thompson Esq. of Charlton. It is named after the Forester by whom it was planted’. Note that part of the lands of Barncroft # BMO (at c.NO355246) were occupied by James Dandy in 1554 (RMS iv no. 3013; see also under Barncroft BMO. above).

    The NGR is of the mid-point of the wood.
