‘Place beside a burn’, probably taking its name from the Scotscraig Burn.

Further upstream was a settlement called Burnfoot on Ainslie/Fife (1775), Burnpath on SGF (1828), and Burnfit (Sc fit ‘foot’) in the 1841 Census Record, occupied by the Gullen family. It lay at about NO444273, where the tributary flowing from below Inverdovat meets the Scotscraig Burn. No settlement is marked here on OS 6 inch 1st edn map.
