Sc scaup or scalp ‘bank (for shellfish) in the sea’ is used to name several such features in the Firth of Tay. OS Name Book (39, 16) explains the name as follows: ‘A point on the beach eastward of Balmbreich Bank, on which salmon fishing is carried on during the season – the name is derived from a man named ‘Durward’ who formerly rented this fishing station’.
