? G baile + ? G an + ? G àird
‘Farm of the height’ (G baile na h-?irde)? The forms are too late to underpin any certain etymology, but on the analogy of Bonhard by Scone PER (Ballynhard 1452 Scone Lib. no. 215), and given its relatively high altitude (110m), this analysis seems at least possible.
The NGR is taken from OS Pathf. West Bonhard, since this is the site at which SGF 1828 shows Bonhard. OS Pathf. East Bonhard is at NT039897. The estate therefore seems to have been divided between 1828 (when only Bonhard is shown) and 1856 (when East Bonhard and West Bonhard appear).
