en *Windygates + Sc burn
Windygates as such no longer exists, but means something like ‘windy roads or windy narrow passages’ (see discussion under Windygates MAI (PNF 2); and Elements Glossary PNF 5 under both gate and gote). It probably refers to the pass between Craiglog and Craigsimmie through which the road goes from Brunton to Ballinbreich FLK, via Pittachope FLK. Windygates Burn rises here and flows south-eastwards through Brunton and Luthrie to enter the Motray Water at the above NGR.
