Cornhill

Cornhill CLS S NO280132 1 362 65m SOF

    Cornhill 1855 OS 6 inch 1st edn

Probably a transferred name; no settlement is shown here on Ainslie/Fife (1775), while Ainslie/East Fife (1827) (and SGF (1828)) show only Trafalgar (Inn). On OS 6 inch (1855) the inn is at the road-junction c.200 m south of Cornhill, the first appearance of the name on maps. The name Cornhill does not seem to have existed until the house was built in the early nineteenth century by Thomas Kinnear, laird of Kinloch Estate (Calley [1999], 52–3).
