‘White craig or rock’. The eponymous craig is at NO361232, shown on OS 6 inch 1st edn (1855) as Fin Craigs. It appears that the name was not transferred to a settlement until the seventeenth century, since Campbell writes ‘the first notice [of Fincraigs] I have met with is 1635’ (1899, 642). Before 1635 the lands were known as Easter Grange (ibid., 630, 507). See also Grange below.
