‘Smooth or flat place’. It lies on the flat land on the north-west edge of the Howe of Fife. The farm of Reedie has now disappeared, the name surviving only in nearby Reedieleys, which must originally have been a secondary development on the lands of Reedie; and in Reediehill, a farm c.3 km north-west of Reedieleys.

SGF and OS 6 inch 1st edn also show Reedie Mill at NO234122; this site is called Reedie Den, beside a weir and a factory, on OS 6 inch 2nd revision (1900 × 1949), and Reedieden Works on OS 1st Metric edn (1969 × 1996).
