Who was Colin? And where was the well? There is no well marked in the vicinity on OS 6 inch 1st edn. ‘A very neat house pleasantly situated on a sloping bank overlooking the sea, the ornamental ground attached is not extensive but exceedingly neat. It is the residence and property of Robert Young Esq.’ (OS Name Book 135, 39).
It has given rise to the name of the neighbouring post-WW2 housing estate (1950s) of Colinswell bounded on the south by Colinswell Road. Older Colinswell is now OS Pathf. Colinswell House, which supplies the above NGR.
