Sc gallow + Sc knowe

‘Small hill where gallows are erected’. It lies beside the course of the old road from Abernethy, which goes past Macduff’s Cross NBH, then on through the Ochils towards Cupar and St Andrews.[30] This very visible position was typical of gallows sites. There is now a disused quarry on the north side of the knowe.
