Sc bog + Sc toun

‘Farm in or by a bog’. Between 1775 and 1827 this had become Blinkbonny, a good example of the ‘improvement’ of names which went hand-in-hand with the agricultural improvements around the turn of the eighteenth century. The name-change would no doubt be encouraged by the draining of the eponymous bog, which lay between Blinkbonny and Higham DBG.
