Now South Quarter KBS (q.v.) Cessnock is a settlement- and river-name near Kilmarnock AYR, as well as being a settlement-name in Govan parish LAN. It has presumably been transferred from one or other of these places to KBS, but the circumstances of this transfer are not clear. OS Name Book (64, 44), dated 1853, is no help in this. It describes Cessnock simply as ‘a good dwelling house two stories high and slated with extensive offices, a thrashing machine, a garden and an arable farm attached. The steading is in good repair and slated and is the property of Sir Thomas Erskine Bart. of Cambo, and tenanted J. Brown, farmer’.
