SSE west + en Muircambus

It would seem that beside Muircambus Mill (perhaps also known as *Cockle Mill, q.v.), a farm was created in the late eighteenth century which became known as West Muircambus. The affix ‘West’ is puzzling, as it is in fact south and slightly east of Muircambus itself, an anomaly reflected in the name for these lands in the 1870 entry, which varies between West Farm and South Farm.

There are still remains of a mill at the site, known locally as West Mill.[195]
