Sc burn + Sc toun

‘Farm on or near a burn’. The burn in question is probably either the Kinaldy Burn or the upper reaches of the Dunino Burn (called Chesters Burn on OS 6 inch 1st edn). Along with Chesters DNO it was a division of the lands of Pittarthie DNO. Brunton is not marked on any map, and is now obsolete, whereas Chesters is still a farm, and is marked on Blaeu (Pont) and (Gordon). See also Brunton MAI, PNF 2.
