‘Farm by a loch’. The loch in question must be Toldrie Loch, now drained, on the northern bank of which the lands of Lochton lay. For more on the loch, see Toldrie CRA.

In the early 1850s Lochton was a toll house (OS Name Book 84, 88), shown on OS 6 inch 1st edn at NO585093, c.300 m north-west of OS Pathf. Lochton.
