Sc cutty + Sc hillock

Probably ‘short, stumpy hillock’, containing the common Sc word cutty. However, there is also Sc cutty ‘hare’ (CSD), with its additional, and rarely attested, meaning ‘horse or mare of two years of age’, found also in cutty-brown, “apparently a designation for a brown horse that is crop-eared, or perhaps docked in the tail” (SND s.v.).

There is another Cutty Hillock in the East Neuk, in CMN, although the earliest (1855) form is Cotty Hillock.
