‘Higher or outer part of a loan’. A loan is grassy cattle track through arable land (see Elements Glossary, PNF 5). Loanhead, also known as Loanhead of Radernie, is at the southern end of the track which still runs from Loanhead north-east to Cameron Kirk, going past South Radernie and Easter Radernie. It is known locally as the ‘Hearse Path’ or ‘Coffin Road’.[43]
