For the eponymous lady, see discussion under Maiden Hair ANR and Pilgrims Well ANR, below; see also Eggeling 1985, 29.
The position of this well has shifted since OS 6 inch 1st edn, which marks it near the shore at the south end of Pilgrims Haven, where OS Pathf. Pilgrims Well is shown (1979). On the 1896 OS 6 inch edn Lady’s Well is shown c.200 m to the south-east, at NT660987, near the southern shore by Maiden’s Bed. According to Eggeling, Maiden’s Bed was in fact a small cave which contained the Lady’s Well (1985, 248). The name has gone from the 1976 OS 6 inch edn.
‘A Spring Well in Pilgrim [sic] Haven close to the sea side. The water is of an indifferent quality and seldom used except for cattle’ (OS Name Book 1, 13).
