‘Black crag, cliff or steep hill-side’ (Sc heuch or heugh). The OS Name Book writes: ‘This name applies to a black rocky ridge on the west side of the island extending from “Mill Door” to Pilgrim Haven’ (1, 11). Eggeling (1985, 245) extends its application to ‘the deep valley containing the Loch’ at the northern end of the feature.
The NGR is of around the mid-point of the ridge bearing this name.
