Ardcarran 1960 Eggeling 1985, 244

Eggeling (1985, 244) describes it as ‘the high ground (“rocky height”) south-east of the Gully Trap’. He correctly sees it as a name based on G à(i)rd ‘height’ or àrd ‘high’ and G carrach ‘rocky’. However, it is a modern coining, dating from after 1934 (Eggeling code R). It is related to nearby Carran (q.v.).
