This may contain the Anglo-Scandinavian name Col, the same personal name as in Couston ABO (PNF 1), q.v., and Collystone of ER i, 560 (1359) may in fact refer to Couston ABO. However the retention of the medial unstressed syllable suggests rather the G personal name Colin, found in Colliston, Orwell KNR. Colin(us) appears several times in Atholl and southern Perthshire in the early thirteenth century e.g. Dunf. Reg. no. 332 and St A. Lib. 246, 349, 363, 364.

Two small ruined buildings are shown at Colliston on OS 6 inch 1st edn, from which the above accurate NGR is derived. No buildings are marked here on OS 1 inch 2nd edn (1897), but the name has survived in OS Pathf. Colliston Hill (195m) at NO364056.
