It appears as Crescent Hill on OS 6 inch (1855), on whose southern side is Crescent Wood (OS Pathf. Horseshoe Wood). The wood is more or less crescent or horseshoe shaped. According to OS Name Book, it lay on the farm of East Coats (sic) NBN and estate of Charleton KCQ (79, 4).
