Sc craig + Sc or SSE rock

This is the rocky hill on the farm of Lahill Craig, which itself is named after this craig. Lahill Craig (formerly Hahill Craig) was originally the name of the hill. A settlement and a relief feature frequently share the same name on modern maps, the former distinguished by being spelled as one word, with or without the addition of Farm etc e.g. Park Hill and the now ruined Parkhill (farm) DFL. Exceptionally the hill-name Lahill Craig has come to be reserved only for the settlement, while the hill-name Lahill Craig has been replaced by Craig Rock.

Craig Rock formed part of ‘the hill of Melgum’ (mons de Melgum), for which see NBN Introduction, Med. Marches no. 3.
