‘Tofthill’ is composed of two Sc words, toft ‘site of a house or buildings’ and hill. It lies on the Balbirnie House Estate. It is not marked on OS 6 inch (1856), nor is any place called Tofthill. It has given its name to new housing development in this area. There was a place of this name south of Ceres c.NO397102, marked on Ainslie/Fife (1775) as Toft Hill.
