Carseggie Law
Carseggie Law MAI R NO287000 1 90m
Carseggie Law 1856 OS 6 inch 1st edn
en Carseggie + Sc law
As with Cardowrie (Loan) MAI, this name appears too late in the record to allow any satisfactory etymology. The law in question is a low hill now part of Glenrothes New Town; immediately to the south-east lay the small farm or holding of Lawfield (NT291997), which is named as such on OS 6 inch 1st edn. Now beneath the Eastfield Industrial Estate, Lawfield, ‘field on or by a law’, presumably took its name from Carseggie Law. The settlement of Lawfield appears on SGF (1828) simply as Law.
Carseggie Crescent in Glenrothes is at NO286005.
