Sc teuchit

‘Lapwings’ in modern Sc (also spelt teewheet, tewhit etc). The persistent plural ending combined with the lack of affixes suggests that the name itself was formed from the plural noun (rather than that the plural arose from a division of the land of *Teuchat). If this is the origin of the name, it probably refers to a colony of these birds nearby.
