Fluthers Wood LAR V NO393045 1 373 80m SEF
Fluthers Wood 1888 x 1914 OS 6 inch County Series, 1st revision
en Fluther + Sc or SSE wood
The existing name probably derives from Sc fluther ‘boggy ground, marsh’. Fluthers Wood is on a gentle south-east facing slope, at the bottom of which is an expanse of flat ground to the west of Hatton Den. This may well have been boggy and subject to flooding prior to the digging of a drain running through the area into the Hatton Burn. The name occurs in Cupar (as Fluthers, q.v., PNF 4); and is recorded also in KTT (see KTT Introduction, final section).
The wood of this name does not appear on OS 6 inch (1855), but by the 1st revision of this map (1888 × 1914) it had both been planted and given its name.
