Glass Law 1856 OS 6 inch 1st edn

? + Sc law

The first element is puzzling, as it would make most sense as G glas (or Pictish *glas) ‘green’, a colour-adjective often applied to grassy hills. It might therefore have originally had a Celtic generic which was later translated as, or replaced by, Sc law ‘hill, hillock’.

It is a small but conspicuous hillock on the north side of Down Law, near Downfield farm.
