‘Field where, or beside which, a hall stands or stood’. Roy (1753) shows Blackhall very close to Hallfield (they are two enclosures on either side of a burn, the latter with, the former without a building marked). The hall of Blackhall # KWY is therefore very probably the eponymous hall of Hallfields.
