Sc black + Sc hall
Although the name has long gone, both its element hall (‘hall, high-status residence’) and its function as the residence of the chief Kennoway tenant or tacksman of the earls of Rothes, testify to its former importance.
The above NGR is inferred from Roy (1753), which shows Blackhall very close to Hallfield (they are two enclosures on either side of a burn, the latter with, the former without a building marked). This suggests that the hall of Blackhall # KWY is the eponymous hall of Hallfields KWY, q.v.
