‘Mound- or hillock-farm’, whence the Fife surname Patullo (Watson 1926, 413). It is possible that the later development of the place-name (only) has been influenced by Sc hillock. The same elements are found in Pitillock, Arngask parish (AGK) PER, FIF, as well as in some early forms of Baltilly CER. One John of Petillokis witnesses a charter of c.1351 anent land in CBE (NAS Calendar of Charters no. 119A). This is probably Pitillock AGK.
OS Pathf. also shows Pitillock Burn.
